Paul,
you must be living right :-)

Carron
I recently had an experience with WEST SYSTEM EPOXY which may be
relevant to your dilemma. When mixing resin to make glue i spilled
some on the wood i was going to glue . No worries, I thought, it
will soak in and act as an extra bond. Next day when I unclamped the
job it fell apart. Icontacted my supplier , a very experienced
bloke in Fremantle, and he explained why it didn't work. In a
nutshell, the fibres in the glue compound need to contact the wood
fibres toadhere properly. clean off all epoxy before you glue.
Thiis is different for some other brands. The BOTE_-COTE book reads
as follows " TPA (Timber Preservative Additive)is a thin liquid, which
reacts with with Bote Cote to reduce its viscosity. Thisenables it to
penetrate more deeply into a timber surface , and carries the timber
preservative into the timber. TPAis not a solvent and does not
evaporate,as such liquids can leave a porous layer, which would
permit easy penetration of water. TPAis added at 15-20% to the
normal BOTE-COTe resin/hardener mixture for the first coating over
all timber"
West System do not appear to have an equivalent product or technique
so i think I would stick with warming the resin and hardener and use
a slow cure hardener. I only had 1 glue mix go off in the pot, on a
46 degree celcius day when i forgot to cool my resin first.
hope this doesnt muddy the water for you, Paul day Waltzing Matilda
The day I decide to mow the lawns at 3 properties it decides to
rain heavy enough that I cant go sailing either due to road
closures. May as well go back to bed.
