"Necessity is the mother of invention" is a silly proverb.
"Necessity is the mother of futile dodges" is much nearer the truth.

Another Messabout! Baker Bay park, Dorena Lake (east of Cottage Grove),
Saturday, June 16 (and 17th if you want to stay over, there's camping).

John,
I've got my kitchen pass for the day and hope to make it. I just need to
get someone to cover my oncall for the day. Fern Ridge is a good place and
only 3 hours for our end of the state. Thanks for setting it up.

Also, I've got my reservations made for the Depoe Bay get together. (now
THAT'S a drive - about 5-6 hours, I figure)

See ya there.

Come to the first annual (hopefully) Fern Ridge Lake Spring Small Boat
Messabout, Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Perkins Peninsula Park on Fern Ridge
Reservoir about 8 miles west of Eugene on Highway 126. The sun will be
shining, there will be lots of interesting boats and boat nuts, the lake
will be full of water and the breeze will be just right. <g> Bring your own
food and beverages, festivities will begin around 10:00 AM.

Fern Ridge is a fairly big, shallow, muddy lake that usually has good
sailing winds, but it can get uncomfortably choppy. Perkins Peninsula Park
is near some sheltered channels through interesting wetlands and has a
small beach. The launch ramp isn't great and the water is thin in places
nearby, but I think the proximity to interesting places for small boats
makes up for that. If you've got a deep draft boat plan on launching at
Orchard Point or Richardson Parks, about 4 miles across the lake.

I hope to see you there!

Nobody ought to wear a Greek fisherman's hat unless they meet two conditions:
1. He is a Greek
2. He is a Fisherman <Roy Blount Jr.>
