I was there! It was pretty nice this year. The winds were light and fluky
-but a good variety of boats. I have a short write up and a couple of
pictures at our sailing club web site ECTSSNEWS The best
picture is the one of all the boats pulled up in front of the Island Place.
There is a link to the West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron at our web site.
Ron will be posting more pictures at that site shortly. We had our Martha
Jane there. Apparently another martha jane pulled into town from gainesville
on Sunday - but couldn't find any place to park so left without launching. I
was disappointed.

Some shots were taken

Warren,

If you and the Tortoise and I and the Sweet Caroline make it, you have a
standing offer of a ride to any of the "conclaves". They may shun us, but
sure as h*** they won't outrun us! The big group is a clutch of Sea Pearl
21's, a great boat but I have the best deal on one (a friend who owns one!).

Hope to see you there, I'll be in the green 20 foot dory skiff, and I think
I'll recognize the Tortoise! I took my little $100 luan sprit skiff last
year, so low-balling the Meet is OK with me. A tiny and somewhat slow boat
is limiting as you say, though. We also had the goldplate Pearl.

Actually most of the boats there are seapearl 21s. There are a lot of
seapearls in Florida and many of them make their way to cedar key. There are
two local trailer sailing clubs - one on the gulf coast and one on the east
coast ( I coordinate the one on the east coast). Both of those clubs attend
the cedar key messabout and both clubs are heavily weighted with seapearls.
At our joint sailout last month 5 out of 9 boats were seapearls and one of
the other members has just traded his Precision for a seapearl - ( I have a
seapearl as well as my Martha Jane - both boats are leeboard boats).
Seapearls are one of the finest sailing trailerable sailboats built! Our
martha jane will keep even with a pearl on a run - but when we turn upwind -
they leave us way behind.

We're going this year - but won't get there until sometime on saturday. We'll
be bringing our Martha Jane. I wasn't there last year but understand there
was a light schooner there. It is a great weekend. Steve Anderson
I think the Cedar Key get together started as a Sea Pearl thing and
they still predominated two years ago when I was there. The Pearls and
other similar size boats tended to go on longer trips, while the
sailing canoes and kayaks tended to go to the small keys across from
the town.

To all:
I was at Cedar Key last year. I went without a boat and I'll say that I
was welcomed most comfortably. I'll go again this year if I can figure how
to get the Tortoise on the top of my car by myself without caving in the
roof. For those thinking about attending, let me say this about that:
1) There is no program (really, none), is all very informal. I can usually
"go with the flow" but I found myself wishing for something in the way of
structure.
2) As far as I can tell the "program" is mostly getting together to sail to
one or another of the out islands (I wonder if my Tortoise, being of such a
short waterline, will manage to get anywhere before the folks already there
head back)
3) Almost all the boats there are "Bolger-in-spirit designs, but there was
only an occasional home-built craft. Most, I think, were Dovkie's or similar
narrow, shallow types.
4) the geography and the winds were as close to Ideal as can be imagined.

Please don't read this as being negative, it is not meant to be, but I
think that it helps to go with accurate expectations. I think I would be
wondermous if a number of actual builders could make a strong showing. What
say?
Best regards,
Warren
