Re: Depoe Bay Wodden Boat Fetival

I'm hoping to take 3 small rowing boats.
None are new or very pretty, so I gonna put them all in
the water for people to use. Really can't hurt them and they were
all made to be used. I think boats should be in the watter and
used.
After all the Coast Guard is just a hundred yards away, so I think
everybody should be safe. May get to see "Your Tax Money in Action"
Might be somebody's first time in a row boat. Should be fun to
watch them learn, and might get them turned on enough to build one
themselves.

Maybe could have a "Newbie" rowing race around two CG Boats.

Or an Under 8' rowing race. That would be a lot of fun.
Lots of thrashing about and slow enough that even a short course
would be long enough to watch for some time.
Let's see 1.4 x the square root of the waterline. Allmost 4 knots
if you thrash hard enough.

Too many boats sitting on trailers or in slips that never get used.

Pat
Pat,

Thanks...I've been in touch by email and Jack sent me all the info including
the boat display material. What the heck, I'll display the Pointy Skiff.
If I can get the current one done, it will be set up for sailing, that might
make for a more interesting boat.

Jim

Just got a note from Jack Brown. He says getting more interst

in the festival last couple of weeks,

Boat displays will again be located on the harbor seawall parking lot
and at
selected harbor moorages. To locate the parking lot and registration
table,
turn east at the only Highway 101 stoplight in Depoe Bay. Proceed
down Bay
Street past the Coast Guard to the harbor parking lot. Officials at
the
registration table will give you an exhibitor's packet and help you
find a
spot to park your boat and trailer. The registration table will be
open at
8 am. If you plan to display your boat in the harbor, you can proceed
directly to the boat launch area. The turn off to the launching ramp
is
south of the bridge on Highway 101 at the Texaco Whistlestop gas
station.
Turn east at the Texaco station and follow signs that direct you to
the boat
launch area.

When you are settled, the Depoe Bay Rowing club will provide coffee
and
rolls at a Pepsiwagon. The Anchors-to-Zincs sale will be adjacent to
the
Pepsiwagon.

The Challenge rowing races will begin on Saturday about 10 am. There
are
three race catagories, two age ranges for youth and an adult race.
Races
may continue in the afternoon and Sunday morning. We are happy that
some of
the exhibitors are planning to row in the races. Names of the
winners of
the adult and youth races will be added to our resident trophy.

Presentations by some of the boat exhibitors are scheduled both
Saturday and
Sunday. The crab feed will be held Saturday and Sunday in the
Community
Hall nearby. This year, people can also purchase a beer with their
crab.

Tickets for the Ducky Derby will also be sold at the registration
table and
at the Crab Feed. The Derby will be held Sunday afternoon when the
tide is
right. Winners of the Derby and the rowing races will also be
announced.

Tradewinds Charters plan to feature their famous flagship wooden
boat, the
Kingfisher, which has provided many years of pleasure to visiting
whale
watchers and fishermen. On Saturday afternoon, you will have an
opportunity to ride on the Kingfisher one last time.

Our local artist, Bill Ellsworth, has designed a fantastic T-shirt
depicting
a crab rowing a boat. There will be a limited amount of shirts
available
for sale. The chamber office (541-765-2889) can take orders if you
would
like one.

At 2 pm Saturday, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
opening of
our navigable harbor. There will be a presentation of "tall tales"
by local
citizens and a reenactment of the opening champagne ceremony.

Should you need housing while you are here, please consider the
following
local motels.
Crown Pacific Inn, 888-845-5131
Four Winds Motel, 888-875-2936
Gracie's Landing, 800-228-0448
Inn at Arch Rock, 800-767-1835
Surfrider Resort, 800-662-2378
Troller's Lodge, 800-472-9335
Whale Inn, 888-244-4373
Most of these establishments are offering a special discount to
Wooden Boat
Show exhibitors.

For those who wish to camp or are planning to bring a motor home,
Beverly
Beach State Park is nearby; the telephone number is 541-265-9278.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me at 541-
765-2633.
We look forward to having you join us.
