Surf or Zephyr?

FBBB --

I found an abandoned 50 pound mushroom, removing the last impediment
to putting the LSME on a float as soon as the weather settles into a
Summer pattern. That means either I use the teal as a tender and
build a new surf-fishing boat, or continue using the lil'winnie as a
fishing boat and build a punt.

I am inclined to build a new fish boat.

Trolling under sail power in the lil'winnie has been a joy, but if I
continue with her as is, sooner or later (probably sooner,) I'm going
to put a rail under and lose gear. I use the open bow to hold rods
and a tackle box. If I add floatation to the ends I'll lose that
option. Lastly, only the calmest day allows for a passenger; with two
aboard, lil'winnie just doesn't have the freeboard to venture
offshore in anything other than ghosting weather.

So I'm thinking either a surf or a zephyr.

In favor of the surf:

Better looking to my eye.

Smaller/lighter. Easier to drag up and down the beach when I go out
alone, which is most of the time.

In favor of the zephyr:

Larger. Even with generous floation chambers, still plenty of room
for one to sail and one to fish.

Nice straight cuts on the topside.

Whichever boat I build, she'll get internal chinelongs, a kickup
rudder, and glass/epoxy on the bottom and topsides.

So what do you all think? Surf? Zephyr? Something else?

David
