Re: Looking for rowboat "Crystal"
Thanks, Don , for your reply and the ref to your article. The phantom
illustration of Crystal reinforces my impression of a staunch yet
graceful craft.
At 250 lbs, I'll certainly heed your recommendation for post capsize
re-boarding over the transom - and it'll have to be women first just
to keep the bow down.
I'll probably try the single thole pin with the oar lashed to it. I'm
afraid I'll miss the clank of metal oarlocks which would be evocative
of happy days as a kid in a leaky old boat of my uncle's, but the
ability to feather the oars in a chop or even a head wind might be
compensation enough.

I'm new to this group, as well as Bolger4sale. I was prompted to join
by my current mission of trying to acquire or build a specimen of the
rowboat Crystal, described in PCB's apparently rare book "Different
Boats.
My daughter and I want to get off the beach and do some serious
rowing on Lake Huron this summer. I rashly promised her that we'd
have something good to row, and because my time is limited, the idea
of finding a used Crystal has appeal.
I'm guessing there may be very few (any?) of these boats out there,
but I thought I'd ask before sending off to PCB and Friends for a set
of plans.
I'd be grateful for any leads, experiences, or building tips.
Thanks,
