Re: [bolger] UHMW Not for bottoms
Pat:
Thanks for passing that along. I have to agree that covering an entire
boat's bottom with uhmw seems like it would add a lot of weight. I still
think that this stuff might have a place on skegs, though. I used it to
make the sliding hatches on my Caprice glide more smoothly.

Regarding the use of UHMW on the bottom of boats.
I consulted a Drift Boat builder I know to ask his advice and
best suggestions. He says No.
Hi
Just returned from a week at the Coast, some of it steelhead
fishing. Great weather, fair fishing.
Yes, I plan on being at the Depoe Bay wooden boat show if possible.
Thanks for the complement.
I have used UHMW a long time ago but after a couple of years use, I
found that fiberglass cloth with epoxy and graphite on the boat
bottoms were lighter and stronger for the bottoms. I don't think
much of UHMW for boat bottoms.
Thanks,

Ray's River Dories
He's been building the nicest wooden drift boats in the world
for a very long time, and if anybody knows best, he does.
He knows more about Drift boats, and how to read a river than
all the rest of us put together.
If he says "Jump", your only question should be, "How High?"
Listen to experience.
He can be reached athttp://www.riverstouch.com/woodrow.html,
but please don't write him asking dumb questions like I did.
Very nice guy, but he would rather be fishing or building
boats than looking at a computer screen. Has his priorities
sorted out.
If you would like to buy The Best Wooden Drift Boat In the World,
I'm sure he would be glad to talk with you.
Every one a "Show Piece".
Lighter, quieter, warmer, easier to maneuver, and certanly more
beautiful than any Glass of Aluminium boat, an will last as long
with proper care.
UHMW would prabably be great for certain uses, but not for
boat bottoms.
