Re: Polyester vs. epoxy revisited

It is a book that has some age to it (still mostly a polyester world
when it was written). Now having used both polyester and epoxy
myself, I would pick the epoxy (providing I can afford it and what
the use will be).

When I read the book, I read into it literally, that is.. the "glass
and plywood" made a good combination. The use of polyester or epoxy
as a glue to hold the glass to the plywood will always be a debate. I
still say let the application, funds and user preference guide your
use. If I was planning to leave the boat in the water, I would use
epoxy by hook or by crook, but lets face it, many a good and able
boat have been made using polyester. Still nothing wrong with it
(except the stink!!!)

It's been at least a week since we've had a good go around with this.

On page 25 of 'Build the New Instant Boats' by H. H. Payson we find the
following refering to polyester resin:

"I believe that the happiest marriage of any materials I know of is
that of fiberglass to plywood. The firmness with which they cling
together is a marriage made in heaven."

Perhaps is it just a matter of technique?
