Any alternative I'd be willing to support would have to be a mailing list.
I'm afraid I'd have to abandon this group if it moved someplace that only
had a Web interface. There are only so many hours in the day...

When I think of the number of disagreeable people that I know have gone
to a better world, I am sure hell won't be so bad at all. <Mark Twain>
Is it possible to send messages by email to the group or do you have to
correspond online? I find it very convenient to reply to and eventually
start discussions offline.

Hey, group, take the tour at
http://www.communityzero.com/information/tour/
Here are some of the features that particularly impress me (as
described in the tour):
External Contributions
Linking to other sites and resources makes the integration of any
World Wide Web content possible. Link deep into sites to save time.
(Think how we could share our resources and links! -- John)
Reading Messages
Navigating through messages is straightforward. Replies are linked
together, allowing you to move forward or backward through a
conversation. Alternatively, you can use the "Next" and "Back"
options to read the messages in chronological order.
Community Integration
News articles from other websites are viewed in separate windows but
remain integrated with the community. With one click, members can
save articles as contributions or start a discussions based on the
article.
Shared Lists
Lists are like simple databases. You define the fields (such
as "name" and "phone number") and then allow your members to add list
entries. Lists are a great way to build contact lists, share data,
list favorite websites, and more.
Image Gallery
Any computer graphic, such as a digital image, web page graphic, or
company logo, can be displayed easily in the Image Gallery. Automated
thumbnail slide sheets are created for fast browsing. You can create
an unlimited number of image albums to organize your images... Adding
an image is point-and-click easy. Find the image file on your
computer and press "upload". Resizing and thumbnailing are done for
you. You can also add your own title and description.
File Sharing
Any type of content can be easily uploaded into the file sharing
area, including computer programs, music, videos, PDF files, word
processor, and spreadsheet documents... Like the Image Gallery,
uploading files is point-and-click easy. Simply find the file on your
computer and press "Upload". Each uploaded file also receives its own
note board to collect members' comments.
Feedback
The built in feedback mechanism allows members to easily send their
questions and comments. Content questions are directed to the
community's founder while technical questions are forwarded
automatically to the CommunityZero technical support desk.
Contrast that tech support with Yahoo!

Are we happy with Yahoo! now, group? If not, perhaps the moderator
would like to check out www.communityzero.com.
A story at www.ottawacitizen.com (enter Community Zero in the search
box and click on March 19) says: "Community Zero -- where anyone can
create an online community for free -- generates about 10 million
page views a month. It's poised to become one of the few dot-com
success stories of 2001...
"Community Zero allows a group to create a private area on the Web
where they can share information -- to create an online community --
for free. It's not a new idea, but (Alfred)Jay's company succeeds
because he provides his customers with a vast array of tools to build
a community.
"Among other things, Community Zero offers a discussion board, group
calendar, image galleries, a Web-based instant messaging scheme
similar to ICQ, news wire feeds and member profiles."
Might be worth investigating, Gregg -- at least for comparison's sake.
