Re: Steel sheating ballast for AS39

Jean,

I thought long about the steel plate for our AS29 and decided against it as
I have to work mostly singelhanded.
But here's in short how I'd do it:
1. build the lower hull first
2. drill vertical holes (oversized) through the bottom frames
3. roll steel plate under hull
4. push it against bottom of hull and mark holes
5. roll plate back and drill holes with angles measured at bottom frames
then cut thread
6. wet holes in frames with epoxy, then seal with Sikaflex/3M , then insert
bolt so he is surrounded by sealant and not epoxy

(by the way, I like lead ballast especially because there is no influence
on compasses)
To all,

We will be ready to enter in the shop at the beginning of May and I Have to=
think about the best way to manipulate and install 2 steel sheets of about =
700 kgs on the bottom hull as a 3rd layer. Bolger says that they have to be =
bolted thru the hull!! What should be the best way to do this considering th=
e expansion of the steel

Anybody have a good idea?

hoping that is dream will come true soon...
