this GP-16 until you mentioned it here- I checked
out the photos on the website referenced, and ordered
a set of plans that night. However, if you want
to sell boat plans, you have to be willing to do
the P.R., even if you know a whole bunch of the
inquirers are not going to buy. I would have assumed
the interest in the design would have been
welcome.
It is an interesting design, especially to someone
like me, who has been running johnboats on the
Mississippi for a long, long time, and who always
admired the aluminum Polar Craft johnboats with
their shelter cabins.
I was a little disapointed, however. The boat is
basically a box, nice and simple, but the framing
and construction do not, in my opinion, take
full advantage of this simple shape. Apparently
others have seen this as well, as there is a note
in the instructions that Payson suggested a way
to simplify the deckhouse structure.
I might try building the thing, but it is way
down the project list. Next boat will be some
type of sailboat.
