Professional boat builders

Ran across an interesting article in "Professional
mariner" magazine. It was decided to bring the
U.S.S. Cole, heavily damaged by terrorist attack,
back to the USA aboard a submersible heavy lift ship.

The marine engineers who planned the operation cut
holes in the deck of the heavy-lift ship (presumably
in water ballast areas) to provide clearance for the
Cole's propellers, which apparently extend somewhat
below the keel, thus avoiding the need to "block up"
the Cole high. However, when the heavy-lift ship
was submerged, the Cole floated over it, and the raising
began, it was found that the clearance holes were in
the wrong place. Here I quote, "The planning had been
done based on Cole's construction drawings, but the
ship turned out to be slightly shorter in length than
the drawings indicated."

So if your Teals' stem is not quite centered, or
your Surf has a little "twist" to it, don't feel
to bad- happens to the best of us.
