"Necessity is the mother of invention" is a silly proverb.
"Necessity is the mother of futile dodges" is much nearer the truth.

Hi David

Your reference to the Gunkholer caught my eye. Which one is it? I looked
seriously at the 20' centreboard catboat at one time, but it was too heavy
for a trailer boat.

I'd like to see a picture or two -- I still like these little cruisers, and
might still build one some day. A real cabin would be a nice thing to have!

Thanks to Chris Crandall and Keith Wilson for their thoughts on 4mm
plywood Pirogues. I'll have to ruminate on this while I figure out how
to drag my Benford Gunkholer into the shop for a rebuild this summer.

To Greg Carlson, our honored moderator: You can remove the photos of
my Pirogue from the files. They are also displayed at Duckworks.
Besides, since Mr. Bolger's dispute with CSB (nee: CSD) I don't feel
comfortable with the title.

As for the microboat Group, I keep getting an "Oops, this page doesn't
exist" message whenever I try to access it. What am I doing wrong,
guys?

Regarding nautical reading, I have been going though _The
Circumnavigators: Small Boat Voyagers of Modern times"_ by Don Holm.
The complete text is on the Web:
<http://www.mcallen.lib.tx.us/books/circumna/ci_a.htm>
It's not bad, if you can stand reading that much on-line (There's a
link on _The Mother of All Maritime Links_ for this site if my link
doesn't work). Also, "Uncle Pete" Spectre in _WoodenBoat_ this
bi-month offered the suggestion of the _Swallows and Amazons_ series.
Sure they're kids' books, but so what? Good writing is good writing,
imho. Besides, you can read it to a kid and it'll do you both some
good, maybe :o)
