[bolger] Re: Otter II-Vault
Hello all,
if ever printed more than one edition of their books. However, unlike most
publishers, they print a large first edition, usually about 25,000 copies,
keep it in their catalog until sold out and don't very often have remainders
that they discount. The only book I can remember that had remainders was
Bolger's 30 Odd Boats.
I don't remember exactly where I came by that bit of information, but I
think that John Guzzwell was the source when I asked him the same question
about his book, "Modern Wooden Yacht Construction".
I do know that Harold Payson has re-published his books on his own after IM
sold out the original edition.

That's been approximately my experience trying to finidh the collection with
Folding Schooner. I just missed getting to buy it from amazon.com for 62.50
about six months ago.

PHB answered an inquiry as to when his books would be reprinted by
saying that HE wasn't inclined to do so. He then suggested an inter
library loan. That works as long as somebody hasn't been there ahead
of you with a razor-blade.
Having just finished getting the four books before "Boats with an
Open Mind", I'd think International Marine would make a fortune if they
were to reprint those books along with Pete Culler's books. It seems
as if EVERYBODY is looking for Bolger and Culler books. I half expect
IM to reprint Bolger's books; especially since I ended up averaging
about $80.00 apiece for them. That's usually my luck.

I was playing with the macro functions on my new digital camera this week
and snapped a picture of the sailplan of Otter II out of Different Boats. I
uploaded it to the vault. Seems like there was a tread about this boat
sometime back.
Does anyone know why International Marine Publishing doesn't reprint the old
books?
