Re: Birch Ply?
You might look into the price of MDO ply in your area. I am using 1/2 "
MDO for my Dakota. It was $38 for one side MDO and $40 for both sides
MDO last fall. I haven't bought any yet since September, but it should
be a bit less. lumber prices have fallen in my area (Michigan).
If you aren't familiar with MDO (Medium Density Overlay): it is good
quality fir with very few voids, especially in the two-sided. It is five
ply (1/2") and usually has outer plys of what appears to be luan. Then
it is coated with resin impregnated paper. It is sold for outdoor signs
so it has waterproof glue and holds up well to water even without
sheathing with glass. You will, no doubt, sheath your Topaz, so it
should be an ideal material. You can see pictures of it in my Dakota
folder in the files.
