Books: Passage to Alaska

It doesn't involve an umiak (see Umiak thread) or a Bolger boat but I
*highly* recommend 'Passage to Juneau: A Sea and Its Meanings', by
Jonathan Raban. In this book Raban, a Briton now living in Seattle,
writes about myth and history, art and philosopy, physics of waves,
the worldview of Northwest Indians and the contentious voyage of
Captain George Vancouver. Raban's earlier books include 'Coasting'
(circumnavigating the U.K. by sail) and 'Old Glory' (down the
Mississippi in an aluminum skiff) -- both good reads as well.
