Re: Messabout

Incidentally, the weekend of September 23 is Right Out for me, as is
the Kingston, ON weekend, but otherwise I'm pretty flexible.

I am already planning to attend the Kingston Ontario Messabout with our
Bolger Water-Van and 2 Mahogany Kayaks, but would love to go to Kingston, NY
as well, if the dates aren't too close together. I stopped overnight in
Kingston NY twice last year with the Water-Van, and love the town.

Let's do it. Word of advise though: check the Kingston Dock activities
colander first, as they have many scheduled boat gathering activities, which
will clog-up the slips.

Let me know the date.

August weekend is better as this is before soccer and
school starts ...

You'll be happy to learn that Smithwick's is now available in bottles
at the local Pric Chopper. That fact alone (plus the fact that we
need a woodworking shop anyway) may make me build the I60 in
Palenville....

Hey, wow -- *three* Bolger people in the immediate neighbourhood, in
the mountains no less. What are the odds? Plus Garth half an hour to
the west.

Oh my goddess, YES! I have a Bolger "His and Her" schooner in
Palenville that's going to launch in two weeks, assuming that I get
everything done on my next visit. In fact, I was just in Kingston
over the weekend to run a couple of errands. Whenwhenwhen?

(the boat is sitting in our front yard on Rt. 23A in Palenville, btw,
across the street from Michael McGee's, and easily visible from the road)

I like Kingston NY, especially the waterfront down at Roundout Basin?
and all the waterfeont pubs and restaurants. Is that where it'll be?

Always ready to vist our sister city to the south on a moments notice.

I've got a Martha Jane, currently on San Francisco
Bay. I'm planning to bring it east by about September
7th. I'm in Albany. It will probably be a mess but it
ought to be sailable for a mid-September Messabout.

Is there anyone interested in having a "Messabout" in or near
Kingston, NY? I know there's one planned for Kingston, Ontario, but
that's a bit out of the way for me as my boat is not trailerable. I
was thinking there might be some folks in or near the Hudson Valley
who'd like to get together.

If interested, contact me here. I'm willing to help orgainize it, and
I have time off from work the end of August and into September.
Alas, no umiak at the messabout on Dexter lake yesterday. :o( But a flying
proa showed up! :o) The weather was almost perfect (the wind could have
been steadier, though it was sufficiently enthusastic in the afternoon),
sunny and in the low 70s (I don't think there's any good reason for it to
ever get hotter than that). Seven boats showed up, a varied mix: Four
sprit rigs, a balance lug, a Sunfish lateen and a crab claw on a selection
of different hulls. A $200 Dollar Sailboat and a Moondance camp cruiser had
their maiden voyages. I think I can safely say that a good time was had by
all. I'll put some pictures online soon.
