Re: Chebacco light cruiser
transcript of a conversation between my 10-year-old son and a
classmate, aboard a schooner on a class trip on the Hudson River:
son: "Our family's boat is a Chebacco."
classmate: "Is that like a cigarette boat?"
son: "No."

Bill,
I was worried when I saw the For Sale notice and am
greatly relieved that you are thinking about that next
one.
And isn't it great when spouses get so excited about
our projects?

Bob Cushing's ad is also in the bolger4sale group (which any of us can
easily consult, because it's under Yahoo, like this list - so no additional
complications to join it). Incidentally, it's a group with low traffic, so
joining it won't significantly clog your inbox.
I'll take this opportunity of mentioning that I recently added my Chebacco
to the for sale list. I do love it, but having retired I need to scale down
a bit, and in particular release some space to build my next boat ;)

Do you mean the 'motorsailer' version? Bob Cushing, out here in Central New
York, built a really nice one, which I saw on the trailer last fall. It
includes a very slick arrangement whereby you can switch the wheel inside or
outside the cabin.

That would be the one. Can't figure out why someone would buy a VERY
expensive boat, and sail it outside in an open cockpit...
A picture comes to mind of a huge boat, sailing in the rain, with the
the helmsman in yellow rain gear, braving the elements...
Or, why someone would want a "cruising" sailboat that will only self
steer with an expensive autopilot?
We probably have a different definition of "prompt". If I have to
wait a week for a reply, I usualy figure it out myself first, maybe
with a little help from the group here.
I'll be buying the cruising modifications from them, but got the
plans from someone on the bolger4sale group.

I'll be buying the cruising modifications from them, but got the
plans from someone on the bolger4sale group.

Is that the pilot house version featured in Chebacco News #18? Haven't
heard of anyone building one yet, maybe PCB would know. In any event,
you'll be building to a great design -- and if you decide you don't like the
house, you can throw it away and have a terrific boat with a big cockpit.
(Gee, do I sound biased?)
In the light of recent posts about PCB & F, let me add that I bought my
plans from him, and was invited to contact him with any questions. I've
written two letters since then, one of them several years later, and
received prompt and complete replies. I don't know if anyone else sells the
pilot house plans, but consider buying from the source even if it costs a
little more up front.
Good choice, take lots of pictures while building -- I didn't and I wish I
had. And be sure to post them on the list!
