If I can find a 12" piece of bronze 1/4" bronze plate to match, that is the way to go. I had thought about this before and had laminated up a 3/4" piece of marine ply but abandoned the thought when I realized that the piece would be the first to hit some immobile submerged object. Dave,You can order small bits of metal from outfits like Blue Ridge Machinery and Linquist on the Internet. There are a lot of other on-line metal suppliers who will do small quantities cut to your size, and ship them to the house the next day.
I get to protect these people from unemployment in my other hobby, machining things, fairly often and am always pleasantly surprised at their helpful service.
What are you going to do for your garden stuff if you use one of the bronze shafts for your micro project? Slippery slope and all that sort of thing. I can see the tomatoes going to hell in a couple years once the rest of the list talks you into sharing a few of those bronze stakes....
