Re: [bolger] Port Townsend accomodation
Derek-
It's a bit late for getting reservations in Port Townsend for the festival.
:o( Last year the nearest room I could find was in Sequim because I waited
too long. This year, with the help of Alan Woodbury, I started earlier and
got a room with a view at the Aladdin motel. Not as charming as a B&B but
it'll work.
If you aren't taking a boat, consider staying over on Whidbey Island and
taking the ferry across to PT (leave the car on the island). The ferry ride
is a pleasant way to begin and end the day, and it gets you out on the
water. A good place to stay on Whidbey Island is the Captain Whidbey Inn
near Coupeville:

Be sure to try their Penn Cove mussels in ginger sauce if you have dinner
there!

I didn't see this before I replied to the original message. The army
post mentioned is Fort Worden. I can confirm that it's quite an asset
to Port Townsend. I haven't stayed in the indoor accommodation (just
camped) but there is a hostel in part of the old barracks and
individual rooms in the former officers' quarters. There's also a
concert hall in a former balloon hanger where I once attended a
fantastic Emilou Harris concert... but that's another story (and off-
topic).

I will be motor-camping at Fort Worden State Park Conference Centre,
which is just on the north side of Port Townsend. Fort Worden has
various other forms of accommodation as well, I believe all of it
affordable. Here's the URL:

The Army post at Fort Townsend has been converted to a State Park, I believe. It looked to me like
all the Officer quarters had been converted over to rentals. They are all around a large grassy
square, which I presume is the old parade ground. Some of the homes were big, and I have been toying
with the idea of going with a group some year and staying in one of these. If somebody has more info
I would welcome a post.

We're planning on visiting Port Townsend for the wooden boat festival this
year, and I wondered if anyone on the group would recommend a good B&B, or
similar?
