Indeed, somewhere I have a xerox of the "Yamato Boats" article from
just about 1948 when Mr Bolger was in Japan.

Am I the only one who's ever read this 'un? I believe it was in the
Rudder.
- Great mix of opinions and suggestions! Thanks for that smattering of
kind words.

Dept. Hand-wringing:
- Please no misunderstandings in Oregon - "some of our best friends are
Oregonians..." (family actually..).
- And the point about $US vs. $Aus. was merely a matter of correcting
to the buying public a possibly misleading suggestion in pricing
policies other than our own.

Dept. WANTED and panting:
WANTED in Australia... photos of the 22' WATERVAN running at full
speed including any level of performance report in terms of behavior,
consumption, cruising record. We know it was built pretty much to
plans, carries a HONDA 90, and is rumored to give good service. We are
grateful to the builders to have sent us a good copy of the WATERVAN's
first 30 minutes on the water, but without broken-in engine and the
usual shake-down up to get a good shot of her cruising 'at low
altitude' we'd like more. She was launched in 1994/95 but no
conclusive report from her owner on her yet!?

Dept. Where is Bolger to be found (1).
- All right, here are the basics for conventional and reliable business
communications with PB&F:
Address = 66 ATLANTIC STREET, GLOUCESTER MA 01930-1627, USA or
Postoffice Box 1209, GLOUCESTER MA 01930, USA (the latter
being up to six hours faster...)
FAX = 001 (978) 282-1349

Dept. Where is Bolger to be found (2).
- Phil has been publishing articles about the work since 1948 - he's
really old/ he started really young; and he's outlasted many
magazines....
- Certainly any U.S. public library has access to the name 'Bolger,
Phil', and, one way or the other, six (!) or so books can be read, if
not take-home fashion, then at least in the stacks right then and
there, or, after a brief wait, via Inter-Library-Loan. Might be faster
and sure is cheaper than used-book services. Look under

AMAZON.com lists B.W.O.M. reliably (ranking its sales-performance vs.
Newark Yellowpages at a comparative 15.9 glolemps, net that is!) But,
at last check, they seemed decidedly behind on 103 SAILING RIGS which
began sales LAST year this time. We, and WOODENBOAT, and PAYSON, and
nautical books wholesellers list it on printed matter, and sites.

Let's not rely solely on the Web/Net to feed us all of our nutritional
needs, as the diet can be incomplete indeed.

- A few years ago a Croat found us while dodging shells and a n-online
Kenyan was just trolling for plans to go fishing on Lake Victoria.
"They are out there..." and we are here!

- MESSING ABOUT IN BOATS is currently the de facto publication of
record for our work, by no means complete but more meat every 2 weeks
for by now 200 columns/endless tomes than from any other designer in
any other magazine! We would claim that of course...

- Points well taken on the Web issue. It's been itching us since it
was completely unaffordable and required a full body-wrap of printed
HTML code, plus a beating with the whatnot 1.00.56 appendix.
But consider the logistics:
a.) Out of now 657 designs well over 500 are still accessible/complete.
b.) Even a one-page set of lines would require another page with some
halfway meaningful essential info(not much found of on comparative
sites or even many catalogues...), plus space for photos, etc. etc.
and you're looking at serious heft in terms of initial effort, then
paper, and bytes. Without giving in totally into Susanne's
long-windedness it's still a major project.
c.) The worst that could happen would be to unleash via a premature
full-size web-site a torrent of inquiries and requests for $5-30
study-plans packages which we will never handle. The work has got to be
seriously accessible and exhaustive in a multi-volume (!) printed
catalogue with 'shorties'/teases (or better) appearing on the web for
'instant grazing' rushes.
Ergo we are at least as impatient about this as you are, and the
project is not done yet. And people keep coming with commissions...
