Do the 34-50 lb thrust electric trolling motors work very well? How
do they keep from overheating? Does anyone on the list have
experience with their performance/range?

Bolgerites,
I'm personally in favor of tweaking the Bolger designs, especially Windsprint
since that is the one I built. But why put a motor on it? It rows
beautifully. Or if a motor, why not mount an electric where you normally
mount the rudder? Or mount it on the rudder.
I'm working on converting my Windsprint into a trimaran. Have the akas built
rough, need to finish them and then mount the main hull.

Another thought. If you only want to go slow, why not row? It's easy.
If it's supposed to be a datelike activity, you'll be facing each
other and there will be very little noise. With a gas motor, you won't
be able to talk, and you'll both be looking the same way, probably.
With a trolling motor you probably won't have a performance advantage
over rowing.
When my s.o. and I go boating, she is really crabby while we get our
odds and ends together, but when we get on the water and row, she
starts to smile.
You'll want to put an extra pair of oarlocks forward for proper
balance with two on board.

Just keep an extra spark plug handy! They are hard on spark plugs.

Cool! I, like Jim, am most concerned with lack of controllability
due to the rockered bottom. My Pirogue with minimum skeg maneuvers
too well to go straight for any length of time without wearing my
butt out making course corrections. I'm going to put a man-sized
skeg on both before I go out again in them.

Are you sure a LOT of floatation wouldn't do the job? Plus maybe a
