Re: Chebacco News - Jamie's big night out
Jamie,
Great story in Chebacco News. While the weather fooled you, I think your
tale puts both your boat building and handling skills in a good light. It's
amazing how long a night can get when the conditions get bad. We had a
similar experience off the Columbia when we believed the weatherman instead
of our eyes. Your description of the hissing wavetops brought it all right
back.

Jamie,
You are being way too hard on yourself! We all make our little
errors that mercifully rarely amount to much worse then a keen
lesson. It is only when there is a catastrophic lose that we carry life
long regrets and perhaps truly merit the title of"dummy".
Your"night out" read like a real adventure made all the more
exciting due to the fact that the boat was also built by the
protagonist!Thanks to your skills as a boatbuilder/sailor,you
stayed out of harms way despite the obvious intimate flirtation
with mother nature. What an experience to live through!!What a grande
exploration of self!
It is so often these types of written adventures that have served
to plant the seed of wanderlust in many a youth which has then lead to
earnest attempts at boatbuilding. In the end, whether the youth ever
actually endeavours to cruise or not is rendered almost meaningless.A
hobby and passion have been born!Priceless!!
I hope you will continue to experience such high adventures and
that you will write about them! You may be inspiring a whole other
generation to get into boatbuilding!
Thanks Again!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, who too was once inspired by a good yarn many years
ago, from the shores of the St.Lawrence............
