If you are seeking a boat rather than a boatbuilding experience (the two
are not the same) bear in mind Bob Archibald's AS39 remains for sale at
less than materials cost. Earlier in this forum, also his boat is on

Hello, Bob and Jeff
Whatever.
I am building an AS-39 and can see the end. Can throw stones at it.
I suspect that many people (self included!) seriously underestimate the time
and money required to build this boat.
Why? Because it uses panels? Because it has so many flat surfaces?
Jeez! It still has "x" square feet to sand, mask, prime, paint, paint, etc.
Still requires this pump and that pump and this circuit breaker and those
cleats and the other lines and...
And I speak as Richard Nixon ("I am not a crook.") did: I am not an inept
builder. Yes, I make mistakes, and chose some time-consuming options... but
this boat takes a lot of time, unless you try the old "throw sheetrock
screws in it and leave the rough spots, damn the bare edges of the plywood"
approach.
Call Bob Archibald!

As soon as the holidays get over I intend to order plans for the AS39
from PG&F. In two letters sent to PB&F using snail mail I have gotten
a very detailed and intuitive response. I for one am very happy with
the service.
Is there anyone out there building or planning to build an AS39?
Mr. Bolger, if you read this, could a pilot house be added for cooler
climates? Not necessary, just a wish!

Mr. Bolger, if you read this, could a pilot house be added for cooler
climates? Not necessary, just a wish!
