re: The Auk
Great description, I can see it.
Really like the side height, I always felt the 24" sides of the brick
were too high. Biggest problem with my brick was my daughter couldn't
reach the water while underway so she would stand on my leg and lean way
over to splash the water.
So why are you putting a skeg on it? Sounds like a good idea for drying
out on the beach and keeping it from rocking while you sleep.

Howdy All,
Thanks for the info about "The Brick". Seems to be a good starting point.
Now, I haven't done drawings of the "Auk" per se, at least none that have
been finalized; right now, I'm working out many of the details in
basswood at 1/16th scale. What I can tell you are some of the
measurements thusfar, and perhaps you can get a better idea...
Length OA - 96"
Beam - 42" over gunwales
Depth Including Skeg - 16"
Length of Floor - 72"
Rake of Transoms - 45 Degree + -
Depth at Transoms - 12"
Depth at Rocker Center/Floor - 15"
Length of Skeg/Stern Post - 36"
Total Length of Skeg - 84"
Both fore and aft, there is is short "decking" 12" long each to provide
additional flotation. Framing to be external (a la Bolger) and primarily
1" x 2". Planning on giving her a leeboard. Looks like tenative
displacement is 620 lbs drawing 7".
As soon as I move a little further along on the model, I plan to
photograph her. Then, if I'm satisfied with it, I'll take her lines off
and start to build the genuine article. Will keep you all abreast.
