Re: Good God,Stan's back!!!!!

Stan,
Sorry to read that health problems have visited you but glad to
read that they haven't slowed you down in the
lets-go-crazy-and-have-some-fun-dept.!
Your Diving Duck project sounds really neat!I know virtually
nothing about the workings of subs(large or small) but suspect that
they all carry the heavy veil of danger about them.No one would
willingly invest time and money in such a risky thing if they haven't
done their homework unless they were just seeking a very fancy
coffin.I trust you have done your homework!!
Please post pictures of this sub when she is done along with Snow
Goose especially since you are so close to being finished.
Be carefull and goodluck!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, trying to rid myself of the"Yellow Submarine" which I
keep humming as the rain bearing clouds roll in yet again on the
shores of the St.Lawrence...........

I hope you're very careful and do all your homework on the sub. Lots
of people have gone down and not come up. Will you have SCUBA and a
way to bail out? Will you be up to wiggling your way out if it comes
to that? If the sub is stuck and has atmospheric pressure inside, it's
going to be tough to open a hatch with all that pressure on it.

BTW, I heard Bolger designed a sub, but I never heard about it.

Hellooooo... Peter,
Well, I guess I'll start by saying, It's not the MIGHTY MICRO MOTOR
MACHINE SNOW GOOSE, it is the MIGHTY MICRO MACHINE SUBMARINE TENDER,
SNOW GOOSE.
Yes, the Snow goose now has a little sister that sinks, the Diving
Duck. ;-) If you think that building a boat can be a pain in the butt,
try building one that sinks, and comes back up again. I had been
designing a ROV (remotely operated vehicle) with a TV camera that would
be operated from the boat, but while doing some research on the web, I
ran into so many, do it your self submarines, I decided to do it my self
too.
So now, I'm building a, "stitch and glue" one man dry submarine. A
buddy gave me two aluminum tanks, the larger about 2 feet diameter and 6
feet long and the smaller about 20 inches in diameter and 5 feet long.
The big tank is the main body of the sub and a 2 foot section of the
small one is the conning tower. Everything will be covered with about 6
layers of fiber glass when it is done. It will run on an umbilical from
the Snow goose, and the air , electric and all will be supplied from the
boat. The deepest place I can do a pressure test is about 45 feet, so
the operational depth will be limited to about 25 feet.
The Snow Goose is finished! Well almost, I still have to build two
water tight hatches in the cockpit seats and paint the whole outside.
The good news is I just bought a pickup that is big enough to haul the
Snow Goose and carry the Diving Duck. You think boating is expensive,
buy and fix up an old pick up.

First response, "don't ask" second response, "in and out of the
hospital" so all in all doing much better than a year ago. ;-)

Me rant? Not me, I don't even have a Micro. I have a Snow Goose which
is a motor driven Micro hull, with a modified Navigator cabin that has a
Birdwatcher top. Did I mention the hull has the Martha Jane sponsons
(water wings) on it?
Well, that is more than my share of band width, so I'll call a halt
on this one. Good to hear from you my friend,
Stan of the S. G. and D. D.
Stan,you rascle!!!
I just saw your posting! How the hell is the MIGHTY MICRO MOTOR
MACHINE SNOW GOOSE coming along????!!!!For that matter, how the hell
have you been?!I have missed your rantings about the seemingly endless
virtues regarding the MICRO.
Be good now and bring the group up to speed with your
project!Please,please,please.........!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan,of plain old Micro LESTAT,anxious to read all about the
SNOW GOOSE,on the shores of the St.Lawrence.......
