No . . . the directions to the launching ramp were requested by someone who
needed a ramp to launch his boat.
The "Official" meeting place for the Messabout is the Town Beach, on Town
Beach Rd. in Ferrisburgh, VT -- which is the southwestern most of the two
little coves in Kingsland Bay. There is a small parking area, a grassy area
for picnicing, a sandy beach --perfect for hand launching small craft. It's
a small, safe area. Very popular with kayakers. No worries about security.
Here are directions:
From I-89
Take EXIT 13 (I-189 to Route 7/Burlington/Shelburne)
3/4 of a mile to route 7.
Take a LEFT onto Route 7 SOUTH.
It is 17.7 miles on Route 7, through Shelburne, Charlotte and into
Ferrisburgh
Take a RIGHT onto LITTLE CHICAGO ROAD.
After 1 mile, take RIGHT onto HAWKINS ROAD.
At the entrance to Kingland Bay State Park the road turns left 90 degrees.
Follow the road and take the next RIGHT onto TOWN BEACH ROAD.
The parking area is at the end of the road, on the right.

Here are directions to the state launching ramp in Converse Bay, Charlotte,
VT.
From Burlington
Follow Rt. 7 south through Shelburne and into Charlotte.
Take a RIGHT onto State Road F-5 (following the signs for the
Charlotte/Essex Ferry)
You will cross over railroad tracks, and go straight through a 4-way stop
sign at a general store.
A few more miles and the road takes a 90 degree turn to the left -- follow
it.
The road ends at a "T" as you face the water. Take a LEFT (This is a
well-maintained dirt road)
Follow the road for about a mile and take your first RIGHT.
The entrance to the State Boat Launch is about a-quarter mile down on your
left.
See you all on Saturday!!

Peter,
I will be the one tooling around in the Diablo at close to the
speed of light. I purchased a small electric motor to troll with,
but it does not push it fast enough with a wind blowing to be of any
great use for primary power. It will work great on the Pointy Skiff
(very beat up, but serviceable).

David,
Now just imagine if your Micro were finished......family safe at
the hotel and the skipper taking care of the ship all night long, blow
high, blow low with only the company of a few other madmen also doing
their duty.Of course,us skippers would have to make sure we had plenty
of grub and grog to keep the spirits up out in the lonely cove. It's
going to be tough David, but I'll let you know how it goes so that NEXT
year, you will have no excuses not to be there with FIREFLY!
I do not have the chart in front of me but I am impressed with the
plastic charts! You Americans think of everything!I will probably
anchor out half way between the two unclear coves and wait until
someone hollers out from one or the other....I'll be the nut in the
Micro flying a big Canadian flag.:-D
My biggest concern at the moment, apart from the weather,is the
border crossing.I hope that it goes well without to much grief over
little details like fermented beverage handily stored in nifty glass
cylinders and capped with natural cork.
Expect to leave this Saturday and give myself lots of time in case
of weather delays etc.......
See you there!!!!!!!

Hi folks -
I've been away on business, but here is the answer to numerous questions
regarding the Messabout.
At displacement hull speed, Button Bay State Park is about an hour south of
Kingsland Bay. The beach at Button Bay is really just rock ledges, and not
very good for launching boats.
I'll be arriving Saturday afternoon, by boat (my Catalina is moored in
McNeil Cove, a few miles north of Kingsland Bay).
There are many motels along Route 7, mostly congregated in the Shelburne
area, with fewer and fewer as you get to Charlotte. For those who want to
camp, try Button Bay State Park (and drive up to Kingsland Bay) or Mt Philo
State Park (off of Route 7, a few miles east of the lake).
The closest marina to Kingsland Bay is Point Bay Marina in Town Farm Bay. If
you look at the chart, you will see that Kingsland Bay sort of hangs of the
southwest part of Town Farm Bay, so the marina is a mile or so northeast of
Kingland Bay (across Town Farm Bay).
Yes, exit 13 is exit 13 both North and South.
The Town Beach in Charlotte is a small, sandy beach -- good for hand
launching small craft. There is no camping allowed at the site, and it
"officially" closes at 9:00 pm (though, I don't think they lock a gate or
anything).
I hope this answers all of the questions so far.
David

I had that problem. I just striped all the useful stuff off the runabout,
pulled it to the dump, and left the carcass of the thing there. I got a
great trailer out of the deal.

sorry for the poor typing, I am using a speech to text converter.
Kind of geeky, but I had to try it.
I am in the process of getting "Firefly" weather tight. half the
cockpit is glassed, and most of the keel. The bronze plate i
installed into the keel is real strong. I think this is going to
work out well. I have made no progress on finding a suitable
trailer. A friend of mine has one, but it has an 18 foot runabout on
it. I tried to give it away to a local foundation, but they did not
want anything that old. Anybody want an 18 foot runabout with a 75

ON another note, check out Robb White's article on fiberglassing
boats in Messing About in Boats. I tried his technique today. It is
great as long as you don't get pulled away from the job in the middle
of it.

Interstate systems in the US.
all Interstate systems are numbered from south to north and west to
east . exits always go a and then b, east and west , and similarly a-
then B. south to north . The exit numbers are the same traveling in
either direction , but when going in north to south you would

Thank you very much for the driving directions!!My Pesky crew will
be able to come down and join me(I'll have to remember to hand out the

Not being too familiar with your Interstate Highway system I have
one question;Exit 13,will it be the same exit number whether one is
travelling South bound or North bound on I-89?
I guess you can tell I don't get to go out much..........

Lincoln,
I'll be staying on board my Micro at anchor. However, precisely in
which cove I do not yet know.If all goes according to plan,I hope to
be arriving either late Thursday or sometime during the day Friday.I
expect that after the 4 or 5 days of cruising it will take me to get
down to Kingsland Bay,I will be needing the services of the nearest
marina to"freshen up a bit".That is;get ice,get gas,get water,get
cleaned and get rid of some garbage! This last item is particularily
important, considering the stiff regs. on the lake about garbage
disposal, since I do not want to find myself also having to get out of
jail.
Once the above mentioned"gets"have been taken care of and a good
nights sleep has been had, then it'll be an early morning Saturday
departure in search of Davids Catalina 22.
Never having been to a messabout either,I can only imagine what
sort of shenanagans may take place.Based solely on past postings,it
would appear that the less formally organized, the better. As long as we
are all at least disorganized in the same cove!
Since most of the Bolgerados will be arriving via highway, there may
be some who will be camping so.......if I can't spot Davids Catalina
22 then I intend on anchoring off the beach closest to the campground
and wait.
I hope we get stuck with a deathly long stretch of clear blue
skies, gentle breezes and many more attendees for the messabout!
See you there!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, busy making lists of things to do before D-day,from the
muggy unstable weather laden shores of the St.Lawrence.........

Is there a consensus on where to stay? I've never been to a messabout.
Are we going to stay up til all hours trading lies? Is it close enuf
to go by boat from BUtton Bay State Park to the Town Beach?
I remember a town beach, but it was on Lake Rd. Are there two? Did
they move it?

I remember a town beach, but it was on Lake Rd. Are there two? Did
they move it?

Hello all -
Here are directions to the Charlotte Town Beach in Kingland Bay, site of the
Lake Champlain Bolger Messabout, August 4 & 5.
From I-89
Take EXIT 13 (I-189 to Route 7/Burlington/Shelburne)
For anyone arriving by boat, there are two coves in Kingland Bay. The town
beach is in the Southwestern-most cove.
I plan to arrive by boat about midday on Saturday. I'll be sailing a
Catalina 22 names "Spirit," towing a white Elegant Punt named "Whispering
Jesse" (which was absolutely trashed by "dinghy dock rash" over the last
week - rubrail chewed up, red and black paint rubbed all over her, finish
rubbed off to bare wood in places -- so I'm afraid she will not be much to
look at).
If I can be of any help in answering questions, ask away.
Looking forward to meeting some of you there.
David

week - rubrail chewed up, red and black paint rubbed all over her, finish
rubbed off to bare wood in places -- so I'm afraid she will not be much to
look at).
