Bolger Champlain

Sent away a couple of weeks ago for the packet on the Champlain as
prepared by Han van Pelt. He asked me to pass on a couple of things.

1. He will send ot a 78 page packet for $15 Canadien. It includes
plans on some of the extra features he put on his boat. He makes
some efforts to avoid using marine hardware, but his plans include
some clever ideas to get around that. The packet has many drawings
and notes, but since I don't have the Bolger plans yet, many don't
make sense to me yet. Plus I have just looked at it a few minutes.
Seems well worth the money if you wanted to build a set.

2. His name is Han... not Hans.

3. He says he has been asked several times, and NO his boat is not
for sale!

4. He also said that when he is asked about the boat he says "it is
fantastic". He uses a Yamaha 10hp 4 stroke, but cautions that it has
an almost 12 inch prop. It is a high thrust set up. Anything less,
and he says you would be unhappy, especially trying to stop the
boat. He says he gets about one quart an hour... 20 miles per gallon
(canadian) at about 3000 rpm.

His address is:

The Bolger Champlain looks like it would be a nice boat for some
uses. Anyone know personally of one that has been built? Would be
curious as to its abilities. How about any of those step sharpie
hulls? I dream of slow river cruising in a few years. Will enjoy
Escargot for now, but I am looking at a boat with headroom and the
ability to handle the river when the wind picks up.

Any step sharpies in the Seattle area?

Thanks for any thoughts on Champlain and the like.
