Gougeon Bros. says epoxy will bond well to poly-glass if you sand or
grind back far enough to expose the glass strands. But it is a simple
mechanical bond, not a chemical one. While the epoxy will thus bond
well to the poly, don't count on the poly staying bonded to the wood.
I first clad my "Diablo" with FG wet out with polyester resin. When
sanding the next weekend I saw a small blister/air bubble and ground
it down to re-coat. Unfortunately it kept getting bigger. Short
story, all the FG easily ripped off. I then re did it with FG and
epoxy. Huge difference. It is basically impossible to get off. My
recconedation-never use polyester resin in a boat you plan to be
further from shore than you can swim. Bruce Hector, Kingston,ON

out (by the previous owner) in the weather for a while. It was easy to
peel off the tape after a little encouragement with a chisel. I have
another boat that spent two years outside after painting where I could
pull off the polyester by hand. I suppose if the polyester is stuck
on well and you carefully remove any wax that may be present, and THEN
sand, you may get a good stick with epoxy.

I have good luck with poly repairing production boats and have build
one small pram using it. I started a small row boat and was thinking I might
want to try epoxy. Plan to build a large boat this winter I could use the
expriance with epoxy.

As I understand it, the epoxy will stick to the poly.
The problem is that the poly doesn't stick to well to wood. Can't say
I've every tried it, though...
Why are you wanting to do this horrible thing? Do you have
delamination problem, abrasion problems, finish problem, ?
