I have been looking for plans for Cynthia J to replace my Junebug. I've had no response from the Friends contact. Can someone tell me where i can find the plans? THX.

Does anyone on the group know of a site with pictures
of a completed Cynthia J ?

Thanks,

Tom,

Do it! There should be lots of Cynthia J's out there. I don't no why there
aren't. It's a lovely looking boat, with a lot more curves than I could have
imagined on a square boat.

Stuart,

Your work on the Cynthia J looks very good. You're starting to tempt
me away from the Bobcat here. I've been agonizing over what to build
next (after the next canoe, that is) and had just about settled on
Bobcat.

I've altered one of the canoe designs found in the chine designer
software into an indian-style canoe with 5 chines and constructed
one model out of cardboard. It looks like it'll be a snap to build
in plywood.

Thanks Peter,
You sent me your full sized Cynthia J photos a couple of months
ago. So far that is the only Cynthia J I have seen, that is true to the
plans.

Photos looks great. You will have a wonderful boat.

For comparision, my Cynthia J. is pictured in Files on this group.
This boat was not built by me.

The original external keel shoe was douglas fir and was destroyed by
the trailer. It was replaced by oak with a metal half-round.

The cleats were carved from solid hardwood; I forget which species.

Phil,
The red beech is a New Zealand native. I think it's Latin name is is
something like Northus Ficus (Northus meaning southern). Apparently it was
called beech because of the similarity to northern hemisphere varieties of
the same name. The characteristics are strong, hard, good for bending, is
easy to shape. On the down side, it does move if exposed to the sun.
Hopefully this will be negated somewhat by the fact I'm only using small
pieces and will epoxy them. The cleats are two piece laminated length ways.
I'm sorry I couldn't take more of a close up photo of them, but I was using
a disposable camera and any closer would have made them unfocused. Shape and
size were taken straight from the plans in "The Folding Schooner" page 55.

Stuart,

Please tell us more about the laminated red beech cleats.
Characteristics of red beech? Is it an American variety? What are
the thicknesses of the laminations and their orientation? Maybe a
closeup? You have given, and it is good -- now we beg
for more.

I did not find the files that large.

Vance,
The center metal skid in a strip of marine stainless steel which is
primarily for a trailer shoe, however if you notice that at the bow, the
very end sticks straight out, this has a quarter inch hole in it, which I'm
hoping to use as a tow hook, for pulling it onto a trailer. The outside
aluminum strips are mostly to protect the paint work from being to scratched
up when beaching, because the bottom is one place I want to try to minimize
maintenance due to it's relative inaccessibility. And yes there are some
rocky areas where I will be sailing it.

Yes, but three for the price of one. Nice piks, very nice
workmanship on the boat. About those metal clad skids-- do you
sail in a rocky area?
