Re: Paint

Michael, believe it or not, the paint is adhering to the glassed
bottom remarkably well. I did not epoxy the whole boat so this does
not seem to be the trouble. Rudder, leeboard, mast and spars are the
culprits here. Wherever they touch their resting place, the paint
peels off. Monday, I took these down in my basement, repainted and
turned the dehumidifier on mummify! Perhaps that will help the drying
process.

Dennis

I wonder if your problem is amine blush from the epoxy interfering with the
drying of your paint. Did you wash your epoxied areas before painting?

I painted my Carnell/Bolger Featherwind with exterior acrylic latex
house paint. The weather here has been so humid that it is still
tacky even after nearly a week and sticking to everything (saw
horses, paper, etc. Can anyone tell me how one can get this stuff to
dry. Also, what can I use as a drop cloth that will not stick to the
boat and peel the work off when I move it?

Thanks,

I have painted the rudders on my boat (cruising catamaran) with
Behrs best acrylic latex with good success. I first covered the
wood with clear epoxy and then two part bottom build-up epoxy paint
and then with latex paint after lightly sanding them. It did take
about a week to dry hard enough to use them but they have held up very
well for two years now. Has anyone ever used garage floor latex/epoxy
paint like they sell at Home Depot on fiberglass. It comes in shades
of grey and cost about $30 for a gallon with epoxy additive. It has
very little smell and I am thinking of painting the interior of my
boat with it. Comments please.

Was the paint put down directly over epoxy? I had trouble getting the latex
porch paint on my AF4 to fully harden and stick to the substrate wherever
there was epoxy. Sanding it off and recoating with primer under the paint
solved the problem. I hope this isn't your solution, though. Here's an idea:
use the boat now and fix it over the winter season!
