Thanks, Derek. I'll give it shot as soon as I feel my karma good. (I find it
hard to be patient and persistent when I have a high expectation of failure)
Is your ability to communicate so clearly a cause or a consequence of your
being "ex-tech support"?:)

Hi Bill

If I read your post right, you're almost there. When you use WinZip to open
(read) the archive file (hulls.zip) you see a big list of .hul files, the
data files for the program. Buried in their midst is a file called
hull.exe - that's the program, and that's what you need to click on to get
up and running.

Without knowing which version of WinZip you are running it's tough to be
click for click exact, but you should be able to find an option called
'Extract', probably either on a big button near the top of the WinZip window
or under the 'Actions' menu. Using the Extract function you want to extract
_all_ of the files, making sure you know which folder/directory you've put
them in. Then go to the same folder (using windows Explorer, or
what-have-you) and click on the hull.exe file. You may need to obtain some
Visual Basic runtimes before much will happen, in which case check Gregg's
site for a link.

Sorry for the long post. If things are still not playing for you, drop me a
line off-group and I'll try to help.

cheers

Rather than double clicking the listed files to run them, isn't there
some button you can hit to extract the files? Seems like you may be
trying to run only one file, but maybe hulls needs all or several of
the files to run.

Bill:

Have you looked at Gavin Atkin's Hulls Tutorial?

Would some good tech-savy good samaritan give this twit some help on
getting me started on Greg Carlson's "Hulls" software? I've been
diddling away at this sporadically for sometime, but my progress
leaves something to be desired. At some point I decided I
needed "WinZip", and downloaded an "evaluation" version of that
program. I have succeeded (I think - could be mistaken)in down-
loading the "Hulls" program to my C-drive - in any event, if I click
on "My Computer", I find a "Zip" icon, captioned "hulls", which, when
clicked on, opens to what appears to be a list of many different
designs. If I click on one of the listed items, my computer
automatically starts up AOL, which informs me that it "may not
support the file", but lets me try. If I do so I get nothing but a
column of numbers. Is my problem AOL? using
the "evaluation" "WinZip"? Do I just need bona-fide "WinZip" or do I
need the "self-extractor", too? Did I just screw up the download?
Since my "Plyboats" program invariably crashes my system if I try to
print panel expansions, and Ray Clark can't advise on a remedy, I'd
love to give "Hulls" a try, having read rave reviews, but I'm stymied.
