Re: speaking of motors (SPRIT RIG)

I think Bolger's dowels extended past the sprit, I guess so you could
use them like belaying pins.

Wouldn't a hole in each end be topologically the same as a slot with a
dowel? On my Caprice, I have a slot on each end of the sprit, but that is
the Mizzen sail, and the snotter is right there, so not too many mistakes.
On an earlier pram with a sprit sail, I used holes.

Hope to see them soon!

Maybe you could have a slot like the one we have, but with something
you could put in the end of the slot to capture the lines so they
didn't fall out at an inconvenient moment. We use knots in the sheet
and the outhaul (if you want to call it that) to keep them from
passing thru the slot, so if something blocked the slot, they wouldn't
fall out even if tention was lost. Maybe drill and tap for a big Nylon
bolt? (This idea partly stolen from model airplanes.)

On the full size plans it shows a slot and a dowel going through just
behind the slot at each end of the sprit.I just thought there might
be a cleaner looking way of doing it.

I don't have a photo, but our Brick has simple slots in the end of the
boom. It works, but I don't recommend it because the sheet can pop out
of the end of the boom underway if you mess up while trying to adjust
the sprit. Ended up rowing a long way back because it was too windy to
recover from this. There is some detail on the full size plans, but I
don't remember how it goes and I remember not understanding it.

Good luck with your boat. I wouldn't lose too many sailing days
waiting for the paint to dry, if I were you. Yes the paint is softer,
but it's easy to touch up, and for most of us sailing days are not
that easy to come by. You might want to sail in clothes you don't care
about as some paint may rub off.

How are the ends of the sprit configured?
Any one have any good close up shots of their sprit ends?

Painting my brick seems like more work than building it!

Got the primer on (kilz 2) water base latex.Begin painting tomorrow.
woohoo!!! I'll have it in the water by Sunday I'll let the paint dry
till then, five days should be good!?

Thanks ,
Todd
