I did not tape the inside of the chines, just relied on the glue between the bottom and chines, and the single layer of glass tape on the outside of the chines. I was also pretty generous with the primer and paint on filling the gap. It's lasted a couple of years so far, though most recently as a shelter for small creatures behind my Dad's woodshed.
