Pippo.

I'll have to dig out my copy of MAIB to be sure, but I think PCB presented the Micro Navigator as a mod to an existing Micro. I don't remember that there were any changes to the existing hull below the waterline, so unless the windage of the house had a significant effect, I don't see why you couldn't just do the rig mod without the superstructure mod.

Why not order the supplemental Micro Navigator drawing from PCB, and ask him?

Hi Bill, and thanks
I remember that Phil Bolger in person was against this possibility (I
guess I've read that on an old CSD newsletter) saying that it works
better on paper than on the boat. The nice thing about aluminum is that
it's easy to find and it has not to be shaped! Also, the Navigator rig
adds about 30% more sail area...
I've been thinking to a classic gaff though, but then PCB&F have
already designed a whole new rig...

Best

Pippo

P.S.: did you get my msg ;-)?

Hi Pippo,

One alternative you might consider is replacing the jibheaded rig with a
Solent Lug rig. This gives effectively the same sail shape, but on shorter
spars. That way you keep the looks of the original Micro.

If you haven't come across this rig, I might be able to find a picture I can
send to you.

Dear all,

As you may know ;-), I'm building a Micro. At least from my perspective,

masts and spars are going to be the most demanding part of the project,
because a 7 meter long mast simply cannot fit into my garage...
My question is: do you think it would be possible to adapt the Micro
Navigator's "Chinese Gaff Cat Yawl" rig to a normal Micro? The increased

sail area and the use of simple aluminum poles instead of wooden masts
would be a double bonus to me. On the other hand, I don't care for the
Micro Navigator by itself: I still prefer the original Micro in terms of

overall design.

Best, Pippo

Best, Pippo
Is there anywhere where we can see pics of the Micro Navigator? I've never
heard of it before this thread, and I'm curious...

thanks, Gavin
