Return to boatbuilding-cheap filler

As everyone here knows, antyhing bought for boatbuilding costs twice
as much as a product bought for house maintenance.
Has anyone tried acrylic filler? The white stuff like gritty paste
which sets quickly, costs a fraction of marine fillers and is safe to
health.
Oink was in my driveway facing the sun for 18 months with unpainted
epoxy filler, which fell out. Acrylic filler was in my weatherboards
facing the same sun, unpainted, and is still there.
Cheap acrylic filler may be quite good for non-structural filling in
boats?
Anyway, I am trying it, but would be interested if anyone has tested
it longterm.
