Re: [bolger] Black Skiimmer
I sailed a Black Skimmer in Florida Bay. With gusts up to 25 kts, she
handled very well double-reefed. She sailed to windward herself, with a
pleasant, slight corkscrew motion.
I liked the boat a lot. The only complaint I had was that the cabin was
all flat-bottomed, no place to sit with a comfortably bent knee to read a
book. YMMV.

I am interested in building a Black Skimmer. I understand that it is
one of Bolger's most popular designs, but I find that info on the web
is rather sparse. I have only been able to find a couple of sites
that have anything on the boat. I would really like to hear from
folks who have built/sailed the Black Skimmer & your impressions of
the boat. Seems that there is a lot more info out on the "Martha
Jane", is it a better design? A few other questions,
How did the building go? Has anyone tried water ballast re the MJ?
Did you have difficulty finding a trailer & is that one reason the MJ
seems to be more popular (at least more web info out on it)? It's a
great looking boat and seems to be very practical.
I'd welcome any info the group could supply.
TIA,
Rod
