Too short of notice for me, as it would be a 1000-mile round trip
and require some vacation days.

one note: The Lake Monroe meet is supposed to be the weekend
of Sept. 22, I believe. Scheduling two meets real close together
is going to put them in competition with each other.

Hi Bolgerites!

John Bell and I have kicked around the idea for a fall messabout for some
time. John has become over-busy, so I'm attempting to see how much interest
there is for this.

Location would be on Ft. Loudon Lake, near Knoxville TN, about 40 miles from
the Great Smoky Mountains NP. Venue would be Poland Creek campground, which
is on a middling-sized cove off Ft. Loudon Lake. It opens onto the best
stretch of sailing water on the lake, one which commonly has breeze enough
for a good sail and sometimes furnishes the raw materials for a 6 mile
screaming reach :-)

Poland Creek has a nice privately-owned campground (US$11/night) and a good
launch ramp ($1 per use). If one sleeps on the boat, then there are no
camping fees. There are motels within reasonable driving distance, as well as
many restaraunts (well within 10 miles) in Maryville-Alcoa.

Date is still unsettled, but we can vote on the two weekends following Labor
Day; either is OK with me. Heck, if there is enough interest, we can do it
BOTH weekends :-)

Format is very informal. I suggest a sail/fow/paddle to a fixed location for
Saturday's lunch, return for a pot-luck supper followed by telling lies
around the fire. Sunday can be given over to trying other people's boats,
giving rides, etc.

There will be no fee for the messabout. I will post maps plus hotel contacts
to some website... soon if there is interest.

This is a beautiful part of the country, close enough to the Smokies and
Cade's Cove for good side trips, plenty of mountain trail riding available
for horsey types. The weather is nearly always nice, with 60+ degree nights
and mid-80s for the days, seldom rainy but with afternoon showers commonly.

Please tell me if you would come for certain, and which weekend is best.
Also, if you think you would come let me know. I'll consider 3 "maybes" equal
to one "yes" :-) I am certain to be there one weekend or maybe both, with my
brother and a local kayak paddler, so we don't really have a "minimum" number
of participants... we're already there!!!!

Please send me a head count. If there is even one "for sure", I'll post the
info and send the URL to the list.

BTW, power boats are welcome, though we may need to have two routes to the
Sat. voyage destination. I will have a motor on my Scram Pram "LABOR SVGIT"
which can tow pure sailboats out into the channel if you wish a faster
getaway.
