Re: [bolger] Glassing First?

On the Tennessee, I glassed everything before bending. Nothing on the boat
has any radical bends and I found that though it is a bit stiffer it was no
problem at all. It may depend on the thickness of the glass and ply but I
don't think it would be a problem.

It is so much easier to glass on a flat surface. No runs, comfortable work
height, better light, etc.

Recently I've seen people posting that they glass parts before
assembly. For you folks doing this, does this include parts that have
to be bent into shape? I had assumed that there some "laminated
joint" benefit from glassing thinks like topsides and bottoms after
they had been sprung on. I certainly noticed a tremendous increase in
the rigidity of the scooner after it was glassed.

Anyone with a better understanding of composite structure care to comment?

YIBB,

David
