Re: [bolger] plywood - Now Old Shoe Plans

Dave,
Thanks, I needed to know if I lost anything. I think
I have enough info around to make reasonable sails.
I've got a nice big book with way to much information
and a few Michalak plans that show the basics so it
won't be to difficult.

Gene,
I looked through my Old Shoe Plans and I have the same number of sheets as you. You are right there is not much info on the sails. I was going to make my own "PolyTarp" Sails. Check this link--http://www.friend.ly.net/~dadadata/boats.html
There are quite a few Bolger Boats there too.
There are is a lot of information on the internet on Making Your own sails too.
Hope this helps.

Dave,
I was looking at my Old Shoe plans and I don't see enough information
on making the Sails. I have 4 typed sheets and 6 sheets of
drawings. Nothing in the typing about the sails and the drawing that
shows the sail plans supplies any information other than lengths of
the 3 sides of the sails. Did I loose anything. If so I'll go back
to the source to get what I am missing. There must be some
additional information on seaming the sail to put in draft. I'd like
to try to make the sails.

Dave,
I was looking at my Old Shoe plans and I don't see enough information
on making the Sails.

Build a Brick or a Teal or a dinghy of some sort. Good warm up, you can
use it this season, and not much plywood.

I don't think plywood is going to get cheaper in the future. :^(

Join the sheet of the month club. Watch for sales. Where there
is a will there is a way.

Greetings All,
I went to the Lumber Yard today to get some plywood for my "Old Shoe"
I could not believe the price-$25.oo for a 1/4" 4'X 8' Sheet!! I hate
to think what Marine Plywood has climbed to. I guess I won't be
building a Boat this year.

I Enjoy this group though lots of great ideas and I really Love Mr.
Bolgers Boats.

A couple new thoughts 1) B/C pine is probably one of the heavier plywoods,
so to say that something is lighter than pine is not saying too much 2)
Plum Creek mills has several types of ply that are sold locally in Lowes and
I am told they can be ordered in 3/8. There is a special marine ply called
"marine tech" and I never found any voids in the small samples they sent me.
Secondly they make also an "ultracore" that is not specific to marine use
but is also said to have excellent cores. the last time I wrote to Plum
Creek they were quite helpful with sending spec sheets.

Warren
Maine coast lumber is in westbrook as well and they are very expensive. 5.2 mm luan at twice the
home depot price and same quality. something like $85 a sheet for 4 mm okumme.

btw, the luan at home depot is labeled exterior meranti.

yawn,
Richard

Try Harbor Sales near Baltimore. Shelmarine Plywood available from
Roberts Plywood, Brentwood NY, Maine Coast Lumber, York ME. Or try ML
Condon, White Plains, NY. I've used Meranti it is heavier but good
quality. I don't know what you are building but you can get long
lengths from some firms which can be a help.
