There is an interesting site athttp://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Falls
/6631/ that adverstises sails nearly as inexpensive as Polytarp but
dimensionally stable.

Or, if you like dacron, and have a burning desire to get on the water,
Payson has sails for the folding schooner on his web site.
(www.instantboats.com) I haven't shopped prices yet, so it might be
cheaper to go with a local sail loft if you have one.....

I don't think epoxy has any health risk to fear - you can get allergic, and
then you're done using that material. Latex gloves do the job.

The hardener in the high-ratio epoxies (e.g. 5:1) is the bad stuff, the 1:1
and 2:1 is supposed to be less allergenic. I have a link to a good source
I use on www.carlsondesign.com/lscooner.html - Fiberglass Coating in St.
Pete.

Charles:

Congratulations on your new boat. I'm jealous.

My experience is with latex paint is to use exterior gloss acrylic enamel.
The porch and floor variety seems good, or the kind for trim. These are
more durable, and the glossy washes easier.

If you want yacht finish, you are asking for a big job. I'm no expert, and
perhaps others can agree or contradict, but I'm thinking that you will need
to take all the paint off to fair the hull. I think that the bondo would
work though, not that it doesn't have its own health hazards. Anyway, it is
a lot stinkier than epoxy. My advice: Paint the boat and go sailing.

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a 99% complete folding schooner that has never met
water. I paid $2200.00. I need to purchase some sails, thinking about
polysails. I also need to put on the finish. There is a coat or two
of latex. I'm thinking of finishing off in latex. Is there much of a
difference between interior or exterior, recommendations? There is
also some waviness on the exterior sides, almost what you could call
bumps, small though, is this what is refered to as checking? At any
rate, does anyone have experience using bondo? I know the
possibilities of Fairing with epoxy, but will bondo work as well. I
would like my 7 year old son to help but I fear the epoxy's health
risk. I thought I read somewhere that there is new epoxy that will not
cause sensitivity, Anyone know about it?

Thanks Charles.
