Re: Re: [bolger] Compund miter calcs

This is what I wound up doing.

The boat as designed is set up for strictly taped seams with no beveling necessary. The stem is to be held together with tie wraps or wires, then filleted and taped as you did on your boat and as I did on my sportdory. But I realized that it would be cheaper and faster to build with chine logs and solid timber stem and transom framing. It's all figured out now, although not committed to paper yet.

Thanks for confirming that what I did was the 'right' way.

If you are drawing them, why do they need to be
calculated?. You loft them full (or partial) size and
pick them off the drawing. Or if you know the design
is correct, you can put the wood in place, and then
plane them off to the other station molds as you
build. Or you can cut the pieces to the minor flat
dimensions, and fillet with epoxy.

I built a recent catamaran, that is very simmilar to
one PB designed for sculling practice (though I didn't
see his till later but if you know the boat I mean,
then you can picture it). All I did with it was bring
the pieces together near the front, smear either side
with epoxy filleting past, and then pull the ends
together. I can't remember how I did that last bit,
bit one could use tape, ties, screws, etc... when it
set. I cleaned up the outside and glassed it, and
then I finished the inside as I deemed appropriate.
bevels never came into it.

Can anyone point me to a source on how to calculate angles for compound
miter cuts?

I'm trying to figure out how to draw the stem and transom bevels on a boat
I've designed.

Thanks in advance,
