Re: Of Sawhorses and Gunwales
Bob, thanks for your reply. I agree with you that I have a paint
problem. In the last month I have sanded the exterior and repainted.
However, I have not had a chance to get at the tops of the gunwales
and the interior. I hope to have the opportunity to do that this
month, weather permitting. If not, I will take care of it in the
spring.

Hi Dennis,
The way I read it you have a paint problem. Sooner or later you will
be stripping off the old paint and repainting. I don't know what
Featherwind looks like but if it's an open boat try supporting the
boat on sawhorses from the inside of the boat, either resting the
thwarts if any on the sawhorses or the floorboards resting on
supports. If paint is stripping off it would seem it is not properly
cured. Or if you painted over epoxy perhaps you didn't prepare the
epoxy surface to take the paint. If this is outside storage be sure
that the carpet can't get wet.

Hi, all. I have Inscrutable, the Carnell version of Featherwind,
upside down on sawhorses for winter storage. In order to protect the
gunwales, I tacked some old carpet on the sawhorses. However, this
has not worked out. The weight of the boat causes the gunwales to
stick to the carpet and when I lift the boat off of the horses, paint
and even wood inevitably peels off with it. AARRGH! What can I use to
protect the gunwales without slowly destroying the finish and the
wood?
Thanks,
