Re: polycarb

ok, so i am too busy to look up who originally posed the question, but i wanted to comment....

polycarb can be purchased here in Maine in any color and percentage tint you want for very little more than clear costs. (3'x4' sheet for $30 or so). also, eyeglass places have a dip that reacts with the lenses and takes the tint lighter, and a different dip that makes it darker. it can be purchased at most plastic supply places for cheap, and painted on a horizontal
surface to yield nearly uniform color and tint. another tid bit is that you can but a bottle of solvent that will weld polycarb to other plastics in 15 seconds and be as strong as the base material. it is nearly clear once welded, if you are careful to make a good fit. i have made auto body parts out of polycarb and used the chemical weld stuff with good results. i have
long considered making a boat entirely of polycarb. i figured costs of about 1/2 marine plywood, and durability beyond my lifetime, if well cared for, but my girlfriend refuses to set foot in a clear bottomed boat......

too busy, a lousy place for a life, but it beats being bored!

oh yeah, to the guy wanting a carry on boat.... have you considered using a mastic for the joints, so that you could take the thing home too?
