I must say that getting Phil Bolger to design a boat may be difficult,
but the cost is reasonable.

The difficult part of getting him to design the boat is 1) the new
design must be interesting (to PB&F) and 2) you've got to convince PB&F
that you really, really, really, really are going to build the design
and 3) not only are you going to build the design, you are going to
build TO the design.

Hello Phil -

Yes, I believe the Barge Houseboat was a reply to your letter.
Sorry to hear you did not pursue it.

I thought Bolger's solution looked interesting. I wonder if it
could be made into a coastal cruising houseboat using outboard
propulsion, and stretching the design a little.

Seems like it might be suitable for the same service you may expect
from a Gibson type houseboat, but much nicer looking.

Tom,
If I recall correctly, this was one of Bolgers"cartoons" for the
much missed Small Boat Journal.I never read whether it ever left the
cartoon stage but your best bet would be to contact Mr.Bolger, either
by fax or postal service, directly.Who nows......he may have
just what you're looking for!
Good Luck!

I believe that this was a "cartoon" or design study Bolger did in the
Small Boat Journal in response to a letter I sent in. As far as I know
this idea never made it to the design stage from the cartoon stage. I
spoke with Phil and Susanne about this design a few years ago when I met
them to discuss a different design.

The person/source/repository to ask about Phil Bolger designs is,
amazingly enough, Phil Bolger & Friends. Send them a fax. They will
probably fax you back in less than 24 hours. Actually unless you fax
them in the middle of the night in Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA,
you'll probably get a response in a couple of hours if it is about a
design they have already executed.

Ordering plans is quite painless and pretty damn speedy. Send a check,
get a plan back by express mail, usually mailed the same day your check
was received.

I read about Bolgers Barge Houseboat in "75 Unconventional Designs"
(Plan 58 Barge Houseboat).

It is an unpowered houseboat designed to appear as a cruiser.

Does anyone have any information about this design? Perhaps you know
of someone who built it in one form or another?

Also, do you know where I might obtain a copy of a study plan?

All assistance will be appreciated.
