Re: [bolger] Re: Almost dead Cat(boat)

Bink,

It would be great if you can get some pictures, Peters CJ is the only one I
have seen made to plan as yet.

Peter,

Thanks...I didn't have my copy of The Folding Schooner with me.
In all my years of admiring that design I never noticed that hatch.
I'll try to get some digital photos of the boat...but if I show up
again they will think I'm taking it off their hands!!!

I don't know anything about this boat but I would point out that the
cabin, cabin top hatch, mast step, and cabin entrance that you
describe are not modifications but are according to plan. You can see
pictures of my old CJr in Files.

Greetings,

While driving around town (Vallejo, CA) I spied what looked like
a very Bolgeresque stern in an auto junkyard. I didn't get around to
checking it out until this morning. It looks like a Cynthia J., white
with red trim. There are a few small modifications...the cabintop
extends to the bow, the mast is stepped through the cabin, there is a
large hatch in the middle of the cabin roof. There is an opening in
the rear cabin bulkhead, but no hatch above. You would have to crawl
into the cabin from the cockpit or lower yourself through the large
hatch forward. I like the seat added to the rear of the cockpit. It
has a hinged top with storage below. Although the boat was made with
some care and skill, it is in very sad shape. The bottom and sides
are soft in places and the seats and bulkhead are coming apart. The
trailer is in even worse shape. Too bad...it was once a pretty boat
and the manager is willing to give it away. Looks like more work than
building one from scratch. Of course there are no sail, mast, rudder
or leeboards.

Does anyone know anything about this boat? Who built it and how
did it end up rotting in a salvage yard in Northern California?

Bink.
A sad but interesting story, Bink. I don't suppose you got a snapshot?

Bink.
