Re: Index: second thoughts

I wasn't really imagining that we should get into the labor-intensive
(and possibly unlawful) business of scanning and uploading magazine
articles -- but more that we should create a "Mother of All Bolger
Links." That is, annotate an index of Bolger designs with links to
whatever could be found about each boat on the web -- builder's
sites, photos, sailing stories, even links to specific informative
Bolger Newsgroup messages.
We could also have a commentary section where people could add
notes like, "This one appears in BWAOM, on page 145," or "See article
in October 2000 MAIB," or "Plans cost $200 in 1997" etc. . . . All
of this could be uploaded as a text file to our Files area -- which
would allow each of us to download it, further annotate it, and
upload a new iteration.
Anyway -- big dreams. It would be a fun collaborative project to
be assembled over time, at our leisure. Hell, then we could DONATE it
to PCB as the basis for his own online catalog . . .

All best,
Garth
I agree with the objective... On the other hand, the
reason we have such books as "Boats With an Open Mind"
is because not everyone caught the earlier
publications. I know that I had seen a significant
portion of that material in print first. If all that
material hits the web, why would a book be necesary,
for that mater why reprint the old ones, which I would
like to see. Not all his designs make it into book
form, and that might be an area open to discusion.

-Bob,

I ony own a limited number of issues of Small Boat Journal but I
believe some of the Phil Bolger plans found there eventully ended up
being re-published in Messing About In Boats.

The version I posted had some Microsoft-specific scurf in it, put
there by the conversion from spreadsheet to html. I just posted a
cleaner version, which hopefully displays as well in netscape as ie.
The link is:

(watch out for word wrap on the link!)

There seems little point in reinventing the wheel. Dave Thibideau's
index is all one could want for MAIB. I was not able to access the
index prepared by Roger V. Perhaps someone can let me into the secret:
it will not be opened by Netscape for some reason.

The other part of this project was to include Bolger articles in Small
Boat Journal. Is there an index for the Small Boat Journal articles?
