Re: [bolger] Trailer for the topaz-measurement
Thanks so much, Brad. After looking again at the
sorry, salt-eaten, uh, selection of used trailers
available locally, I am probably going to try and find
a welder to do the frame. Champion has #3500 single
axles set up with surge brakes that ought to be about
right. Your measurments will certianly help. I
figure the bunks must go aft of the transom, at least.

This to Sam G. and any other interested. The measure from the ball to
the nose catcher on the trailer is 3'. From the ball to the center
between the tandem wheels is 24 '. If this were a single axle it would
be at this axle. I feel that I have more weight on the tongue than
would be needed. Thus moving the axle, or axles two ft. foreward might
be better. My 3/4 ton truck handles this load fine but the length make
towing somewhat like a semi trailer requireing taking the corners wide.
Think it is important to carry the bunks well aft as well so as to
support the rear of the boat with the large engine.. Be glad to provide
further. Brad
the nose catcher on the trailer is 3'.
Be glad to provide
further. Brad
