Herein WA Australia , we cant seem to get MDO but we do get what
Chuck Merrell calls HDO . It comes in 3/4 or 19 mm. Brilliant stuff
Concreters use it for form work and throw the scraps away. Often
bigger sheets fall ( Blow) off there trucksand lie on the roadside to
be rescued.
I Thoroughly recommend the stuff. Some bits Ive used have spent 3-4
years buried in a bog attacked by termites before i cut it up.
cheers Paul

Only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked.
Medium Density Overlay. It's a product originally developed for Road signs.
It has one or both sides coated with a resin and paper to make a smooth
water resistant face for sign painting. Made of water proof glues and extra
plys for stiffness. Really nice stuff to work with overall.
Locally here in CO it's price runs somewhere between basic marine ply (fir
or pine) and exotic like Okume. I.E. $45.00 for 1/2 ply panels. The paper
face seems to really soak up epoxy but is very smooth. Ideal for creating a
"gold platter" finish.

It stands for "Medium Density Overlay". It is a plywood product
orginally developed for sign makers. The panels are sheathed with a
heavy paper face set in a phenolic resin. The paper faces greatly
speed up finishing. In theory you can just paint them as recieved. I
found with my boat that a little sanding of the paper face with 150
grit really smoothed up the finished surface for very little effort.
The thinnest MDO I've seen is 3/8".
I built my last boat from MDO and so far have been satisfied. It
greatly speeded up the finishing process compared to my two previous
boats built out of AC fir and BC pine.
