I envy you. We drove around the Victoria, B.C. tidal sloughs extensively
on a visit to Victoria while on sabbatical in Vancouver. What a great
boating environment!
Because life circumstances have made my attention to this List only sporadic in the past few months, I offer this update to those who might be interested at all:

Some might remember me asking about calculating buoyancy several months ago. Thank you for your good information. I had a 6'x12' wooden ramp sloping down toward the muddy bottom of our tidal slough. Last week I built a 4' extension on four plastic drums, unpinned the ramp from its fixed support and, when the tide came in Saturday, we had lift-off!!

I had completed my Surf SAMA-J (well, to rowing trim anyway) in September and now it's 'parked' on the ramp/dock and my Tender Craft rowing stripper NANDESSA is moored alongshore. It's a very pleasing sight -- especially with enhanced boating opportunities on Portage Inlet because of the winter rise in the high-water mark.

My wide says I have to do some interior work on our house but this week I ordered plans for what I hope will be my next boat-building project: Jim Michalak's Jon Jr. (something that can serve as a not-too-heavy 'sun hat' on top of our non-air-conditioned Volkswagen camper, as well as offering the ability to explore inland waterways when travelling). Perhaps PCB's Cabin Clam Skiff will follow...
